2006 cadillac cts review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More sport for the great american sports sedan. introductionthe cadillac cts kicked off a renaissance at cadillac and once and for all dispelled the idea that american luxury and sports sedan are mutually exclusive concepts. With sporty handling, exhilarating acceleration and powerful braking, the cts is a sports sedan in the truest sense.  introduced as a 2003 model, the cts launched an edgy new styling theme at cadillac and immediately grabbed the spotlight. The automotive press praised the dynamic qualities built into its superb rear-wheel-drive chassis. A torrent of new models has followed from cadillac, all very good in their own right, but the cts set the mold.  since its launch, the cts has been improved and refined. For 2006, a new sport performance option enhances its sporting character, while a sport appearance package can give every cts the look of the mighty, corvette-powered cts-v. These options complement the new generation of v6 engines and transmissions introduced for 2005.  all of the cts drivelines are smooth, quiet and powerful, with the latest technology and advanced electronic controls throughout. Yet the manual is remarkable for its smooth shifting and easygoing clutch. The cts-v is a great hot rod, but the other cts models are far more pleasant for daily driving.  we love the cts's balance of good ride quality and fine handling. We haven't been happy with its austere interior, but cadillac has tried to soften it a bit and make it more inviting. It has helped reacquaint the world with cadillac's century-long tradition of technology and design innovation. In short, the cts presents a real, uniquely american alternative to traditional class leaders like the bmw 3 series and audi a4. lineupthe 2006 cadillac cts is available with two engines: a 210-horsepower, variable valve timing 2. 8-liter v6 30,515) and a 255-horsepower 3. 8-liter vvt v6 33,160). The package also includes xenon high-intensity discharge headlights. A new sport appearance package includes all the performance gear in performance package and lots of appearance tweaks: unique 18-inch wheels, restyled rocker moldings, dual exhaust tips, wire mesh grille work and a rear spoiler. In short, it's the look of the crazy-fast cts-v for less money.  the dvd navigation system 2,995) includes xm satellite radio with a three-month subscription and a bose stereo upgrade with six-cd changer and eight speakers, plus the new xm nav traffic system, which delivers real-time traffic flow information straight to the nav screen. Popular stand-alone options include a power glass sunroof with one-touch operation 1,200), the bose stereo and cd changer 1,000), and a split-folding rear seat 400).  the limited-production cts-v 50,675) comes stuffed with the 5. 7-liter ls6 v8 engine developed for the chevrolet corvette, generating 400 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. This monster engine comes mated to a tremec six-speed manual gearbox (sorry, no automatic option here). The package includes big brembo brakes and other high-performance tweaks.  safety features on all cts models include active features such as traction control and anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake proportioning, which balances the braking front and rear. There are eight airbags: front, side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers, and curtain-style head protections airbags on each side. In short, the cts comes with the full complement of safety features expected in a modern luxury car. walkaroundthe cts brought cadillac's new art & science design vocabulary to the marketplace. Embodied in the controversial evoq concept car, art & science is a festival of wedges, sharp junctions and chiseled angles that can be seen throughout the generation of cadillacs that followed, starting with the cts. This edgy design is certainly distinctive. Love it or hate it, there's no confusing a new cadillac with anything else on the road.  for all its futuristic themes, art & science is supposed to hark back to the cadillac tradition of vertical headlamps and tail lamps, which dates from the late 1950s through the '60s. Viewed from the front, the cts is imposing, with its large louvered grille framed by sharp, vertical headlamps. The front air dam is all business, with simple rectangular foglights and a long narrow intake near the skirt.  the cts also has a short, high rear deck with tall, vertical tail lamps. The view from the rear is broken up by the indentation cut widely around the license plate in a contrasting color. The cts-v looks a bit better here, thanks to body colored plastic. The rear view is evocative either way.  yet given the power of the front and rear ends, the cts's slab sides seem a little weak in comparison. It looks best with the largest wheels (18 inches) available.  for 2006, the v6-powered cts can be trimmed with the look of the 400-horsepower cts-v, without the monster engine. We like the optional sport appearance package, with fat, 18-inch wheels, aggressive rocker moldings, dual exhaust tips and a rear spoiler, mostly because the v6-powered cts models deliver enough sporting performance to pull it off. There are also three new paint colors: radiant bronze, blackberry and the flashy but expensive infrared option 900). interiorthe angular theme obvious in the exterior styling continues inside the cadillac cts. If critics have panned any particular thing about the cts since its launch in 2003, it's the interior aesthetics. The cts is sold in europe and the interior reflects that. It projects an idea that driving is serious business. Visually, it's an austere cabin, lacking the warmness of the recently launched cadillac sts.  cadillac seems to have taken some of that criticism to heart, because many of the changes since the cts was introduced are focused inside. The appearance of the instrument cluster was improved for 2005, though the gauges remain clear, straightforward and easy to read. There are also softer color packages, including cashmere, introduced for 2006. As it is, the interior is a mix of high-tech textures, some dimpled like a golf ball. Many of the materials are soft and interesting to the touch.  beyond aesthetics, the hardware works great. There's good support for the driver's right leg, and it's soft where the right shin touches. There's a good support for the left leg as well, with a good dead pedal for the left foot. Enthusiast drivers appreciate these for the bracing they provide during a spirited drive.  the three-spoke steering wheel has buttons for the sound system and cruise control, and is deliciously padded in leather for all but the part of the rim between about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, which is trimmed in wood. Changing the temperature, adjusting the stereo or operating the navigation system is easy and convenient in the cts. The center stack juts out from the rest of the dash, with the elaborate gps navigation system at the top center location. Climate controls are at the bottom, adjusted with amber-lighted pictograms.  the stereo works well, allowing quick and easy switching from a news channel on xm satellite radio to music on fm to traffic on am to a cd. The small triangular speakers for the optional bose system are mounted on the a pillar, and look cool. Onstar is standard, allowing drivers to make hands-free, voice-activated calls. The system comes standard in cars equipped with the navigation system. A driver can enter a destination into the navigation system, and then, aided by a color-coded display, obtain instant traffic data on the preferred route. The map display will show average speed along that route, as well as accident locations, construction and heavy traf. 2008 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door wagon and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Its trunk is tiny and awkward, however; in fact, we can't think of a trunk that's less convenient than the one on the cruiser convertible.  the pt cruiser doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments, but competes on some levels with the chevy hhr, the scion xb, and the mini cooper. Like them, it is essentially a car: the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. So it drives like a car, though the handling is not as good. Cruiser is an appropriate name.  chrysler has dropped the high-performance gt models for 2008. Frankly, we thought they were over-priced and favored the standard model that is still available.  new for 2008, a tire-pressure monitor and front side air bags are now standard on all models and the base wagon is now called lx. The 2008 limited model now has 17-inch wheels, the 2. 4-liter turbocharged engine, abs and traction control as standard equipment. lineupthe 2008 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. In all but the limited model the standard engine is tuned to deliver 150 horsepower. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include dual front airbags; torso-protecting front side-impact airbags; and a tire-pressure monitor. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. Antilock brakes and traction control are standard on limited. They are also included with the optional turbocharged engine and are available as a $625 option for other models. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  exterior dimensions indicate the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the wagon. The convertible looks shorter than the wagon, but it isn't. Maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's lower, however, by almost three inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design.  with the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. And it looks pretty cool. Drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe chrysler pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered by a modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials at the bottom. Window switches are high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets. It's fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cupholders for rear-seat coffee consumers.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The wagon's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height.  to take advantage of this, the rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front. This theater seating, as it's called, affords the back-seat passengers a better view forward. Rear passengers also can stretch their legs underneath the front seats, which are mounted on tall boxes. A 6-foot, 9-inch passenger can fit comfortably in the front or rear seats.  the cabin of the pt cruiser wagon can be configured 26 different ways. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf in t.

2002 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This means the overall length and wheelbase can vary tremendously, the latter from 120 inches to 157. 4. lineupthree engines are available: the standard engine for the base-level xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that generates 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and regular cab xlt, and standard in all others. A 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 260 horsepower is available as an option for most f-150s. All three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can be promoted to ultimate king ranch status, with leather captain's chairs, premium audio, and unique identification.  i love the supercrew, which features luxurious rear-seat accommodations that can be converted into covered cargo storage. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The top-rung lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with handsome leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  for 2002, even base-level xls are air conditioned. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models.  with colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. And this matrix includes some specialty models.  new for 2002 is the fx4 off-road package, which includes 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts, rancho-brand shocks, three skid plates, a 3. 55 axle and p265/70r17 white-outline tires. The fx4 package is available only on 4x4 models, but the package price ranges from $620-$1165 depending on trim level and body style.  the high-performance svt lightning, packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Specialized wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited production image-generator is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch wheelbase.  also available for 2002 is a new limited-edition ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine, unique styling cues and a new color option: dark shadow grey. The 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is the third truck jointly developed by ford motor company and harley-davidson motor company. (it joins two other limited-edition models: the 2000 ford harley-davidson f-150 super cab and the 2001 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car than the dodge, chevy, or gmc. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram has been redesigned for 2002, but retains a retro look that won't appeal to everyone (at least not as intensely as it appeals to its die-hard fans).  the f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when navigating in tight city traffic. Like the ram, however, its fenders seem to fill small rural roads. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  the 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew incorporates styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. The front end of the vehicle features a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the harley-davidson bar & shield. For 2002, a distinct rivet design surrounds the center of the 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast-aluminum wheels, complementing the center caps that display the harley-davidson bar & shield. Flame pin striping and chrome accessories complement the overall package. As in the past, the ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is lowered one inch. It features a specially tuned exhaust system with a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler, ending in chrome 3 1/2-inch 'slash cut' exhaust tips. interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice place to change into and out of driver's suits when we go racing.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat luggage space. It's a great place to put cargo or big dogs. I like putting all my equipment back there when i go fly fishing. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. This is because they use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear.  up front, the 2wd pickups use a coil-spring independent suspension, while the 4x4 versions use a torsion bar front suspension.  power steering is over-assisted, to make it easier to park and maneuver in tight quarters.  we find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. For any customer contemplating those kinds of duties, the 5. 4-liter v8 engine is a much better choice. summaryford's f-150 is still among the most car-like of the full-size pickup trucks, with slick looks, pleasing performance, a comfortable cabin, and a proven powertrain.  ford's new f-150 supercrew is the most comfortable of the light-duty crew cabs currently available. model lineup4x2 styleside 120-in. 2007 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retro-suv gets power boost for 2007. introductionthe chevy hhr is a handy wagon that celebrates a heritage that dates to the 1949 gmc suburban panel delivery truck. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, and the roof of the hhr is high. The chevy hhr is built on a smaller scale, but there are no bones about its retro styling. Its retro look is best exemplified in the hhr panel van.  we found the chevy hhr to be fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the interior wasn't as functional as we'd have liked, however, and the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the chevrolet hhr was launched as a new model in 2006, and it remains relatively unchanged for 2007 with the exception of slightly more powerful engines and a few additional new color choices. New exterior color options for 2007 include imperial blue metallic and golden teal metallic; a new interior color option is ebony.  the hhr is built on the platform of the chevy cobalt compact and incorporates its best features: engine, transmission and suspension. The hhr is meant to compete against the chrysler pt cruiser, as well as the honda element. It also serves as an alternative to a jeep liberty or ford escape.  the panel van lt features smooth, windowless side panels and rear cargo doors with no handles. The rear cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. lineupthe chevrolet hhr comes in ls and two grads of lt trim, 1lt and 2lt. The pioneer sound system is optional.  safety features include optional front and rear side-curtain airbags 395). Abs comes standard on the 2lt, and is optional for the ls and 1lt 400). Electronic stability control is not available. walkaroundif there's ever been a case of a picture of a so-called suv being worth a thousand words, the hhr should be it. It looks like a 1949 panel delivery truck, with the edges smoothed over. The big grille is chrome, every inch of it, and looks almost exactly like the '49 suburban grille. The headlights, however, are modern glittering wedges, containing one big beam and the turn signal.  the front and rear bumpers are molded plastic, unlike the steel in the body. Technically, they may be part of the fascia, but because they take the conspicuous shape of bumpers, they are more like square lumps extending from the extremities of the vehicle.  the glass runs neatly uninterrupted all around the vehicle, with five rectangular windows from b-pillar around the rear to b-pillar. There's something about the simple shape of these windows that gives the hhr a low-rider look, although the roof itself is relatively high, as the name declares. Roof rails are almost useless without crossbars. It features shaved rear door handles. The lack of windows adds security for valuables inside. This design also lends itself to wraps and customization. interiorthe tan cloth interior, despite its name of cashmere cloth, looks like upholstery that might be found in an inexpensive furnished rental unit. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof.  there's no significant storage in any console between the seats; two cupholders and one slot is all. The door pockets are small. There's a useful flip-up compartment on top of the dash, however, as well as a small glovebox.  in the rear, there's one cupholder and small door pockets. Even operating the driver's window, at toll booths for example, requires leaning forward and reaching down. Window switches should be on the driver's door.  the turn signal makes a loud, rapid, annoying click. The rearview mirror blocks a significant chunk of forward visibility out the smallish windshield.  the gauges and controls are standard gm issue. Superfluous chrome rings and trim, and instruments designed to look cool, rather than to be easily readable. One good thing (even if it is bright chrome) is the door handle, an ergonomically correct ring which actuates with a horizontal inward pull.  if the hhr misses on the little interior things, at least the cargo storage possibilities are excellent, although the total cargo area of 55. 6 cubic feet is 8. 4 less than in the pt cruiser. The rear split 60/40 seat folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat; and since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the left, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece, and raises easily.  legroom is lacking in the rear seat. Kids are always fine, as long as three of them can share one drink. We actually carried six 10-year-old boys on a soccer team for 60 miles in the hhr, and they were all happy, even the two who squeezed into the way-back. Adults wouldn't be as happy in the hhr's back seats.  the panel van has a rubberized floor that should be good for delivery or business or hobby uses. Rearward visibility is poor, however. driving impressionthe chevy hhr's 2. 4-liter ecotec is a wonderful little engine, and it has a slight boost in horsepower and torque numbers for 2007. It makes 175 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm, numbers which don't indicate anything special. In fact, that torque peak suggests that the low-rpm pulling power might be weak. We drive up a steep, slow hill every day, and the hhr plugged up the hill like a tractor, with no shifting-down of the automatic transmission.  transmission ratios have a lot to do with this efficient delivery of power. The automatic includes remote starting, and climbing into a toasty car on icy mornings after starting it from a warm house during morning coffee is a nice luxury. We liked the way the automatic could be easily manually downshifted, even though it doesn't feature a separate manual mode. And we liked how it held second gear going down that same steep, slow hill.  acceleration was equally impressive. Onto the freeway, foot on the floor, and the hhr 2lt really scoots, which makes it a lot of fun. The 2. 4-liter engine is quiet, thanks partly to special laminated steel in the firewall.  the 2. 4-liter engine is efficient, also.
